Supporting children through story, understanding, and gentle conversation.

For Schools & Professionals

Healing Storybook titles are created to support children who may be navigating big emotions, difficult experiences, or the impact of trauma within their families.

Written by Australian author Kim Hicks, a former member of the Air Force and a former police officer, these stories draw on lived experience and a deep understanding of how challenging life events can affect both adults and the children who love them.

Each story is carefully written to help children:

understand complex feelings in age-appropriate ways
• build emotional vocabulary and resilience
• feel less alone when a parent or loved one is struggling
• open gentle conversations between children and the trusted adults who support them

Healing Storybook resources can be used by:

• teachers and school wellbeing teams
• school counsellors and psychologists
• therapists and social workers
• first responder and veteran family support services
• parents and caregivers navigating difficult conversations

The stories are designed to be supportive tools — not clinical treatments — but they can help create safe spaces where children feel comfortable asking questions, sharing feelings, and beginning conversations that might otherwise feel too hard to start.

Healing Storybook aims to give children something simple but powerful:

language, understanding, and hope.
